In January at my Mom’s LYS, I bought a lone skein of fuchsia cashmere silk (Trendsetter Yarns Kashmir) in a fairly heavy weight that was on the sale table. I had no idea what to do with it but it was so soft and looked so much like DJ and it was on sale, that I had to buy it. I have been wondering what to do with it ever since (except for the week where I lost it in the house, then I was wondering where it was).
I decided it would make a good hat. I have never made a hat, so I may not really know what I am talking about.
I then had to find a pattern that appealed and that I thought I could use with the yarn. I do have a hat in progress — I’ll give more details after it is done and DJ has it.
However, as I feared, there wasn’t enough yarn. Since the pattern is for a top down hat, I am now at the brim and need a different color. I want something as soft as the silk/cashmere. I want something that says DJ (which means either lime green and purple or lime green and navy, although just navy would be acceptable).
There was a yarn with really good colors and that would knit to a good gauge, but it wasn’t anywhere close as soft so (being a cotton/acrylic mix) so I skipped it.
I bought a skein of Artyarns Supermerino (color 106). It isn’t as soft and it is a smaller gauge. It also is hand painted and so has a lot of colors (including lime green and navy and a bunch of greens and blues in between). I don’t know if it will work. If it doesn’t, then I have yet another random skein that I need to do something with, although this one might not be for DJ if it doesn’t work for the hat.
I also bought a pattern for the Noni lattice bags (fall 2006 collection) that I have been wanting since I saw a picture on a web site. I don’t have the yarn yet — that will be a future trip to the yarn store.
